Clinical Autonomy for Practitioners

To comply with Criterion C5.2 – Clinical autonomy for practitioners, practices must give their practitioners autonomy in relation to:
  • overall clinical care of their patients;
  • referrals to other health professionals;
  • requesting investigations; and
  • duration and scheduling of appointments.

Practitioners must still comply with the practice’s policies and procedures. We would recommend that your practice has an appropriate policy that specifically states that practitioners do have clinical autonomy while delivering care to their patients.
