Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health

To comply with Indicator C7.1►E, you must document the patient’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status in their health records. The RACGP encourages this as the information can be an important indicator of clinical risk factors and therefore help practices to provide relevant care. It should be explained to patients that questions about their cultural background – which can be asked on your ‘New Patient Form’ – assist the practice in providing appropriate healthcare.

Resources which provide practical actions and advice to support your practice to provide effective primary healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are available on the RACGP website.

New recommendations to support healthcare teams in prevention and management of COVID-19 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is also available on NACCHO website.
